Quinta da Barroca was the location of one of my best friend's wedding in August 2023. As our taxi made its way through the long winding roads of the mountainous Armamar region, I was blown away. Picturesque views, long stretches of emerald green vineyard and beautiful architecture. If this was a sign of things to come, I knew we would be in excellent hands. How very wrong I was. If you like good views and enjoy terrible service, this is the place for you. But, please, under no circumstances hold a wedding at this venue. Marriage is supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime endeavor. It should be a joyful day celebrating union which you share with your family and friends. The venue, Quinta da Barroca, supplied a wedding planner for the big day. Unfortunately, my friend (the groom), spent most of his special day in futile arguments with the wedding planner to receive basic services which he had paid a considerable amount for. If you are planning to stay here, please continue reading. On the morning of the wedding, breakfast was served by the venue. There were not many hot breakfast options (only bacon and scrambled eggs), but there was a good selection of breads, cakes and other condiments. However, upon drinking the orange and tropical juice from the vending machine, some of the wedding party immediately developed upset stomachs. Not an ideal start for a wedding day. The wedding ceremony was held in a beautiful vineyard. However, due to poor planning from the wedding planner, there was not enough tent coverage and lack of seating. This meant some of the guests, including myself, had to stand throughout the ceremony in the unforgivable Portuguese summer heat. To my surprise, despite the wedding planner being aware, she did not attempt to rectify this. However, at the time we were on a strict deadline with the already delayed ceremony, so we overlooked this. The real problems began with the food service. The starters were served cold and arrived sporadically. The set menu had different options for vegetarian guests and meat eaters. However, only the meat dishes were served. Vegetarian guests were left waiting for an additional half-an-hour before their food arrived. Children did not receive any food at all. Guest complaints were passed on to the wedding planner to no resolution. A simple Google define of the term "wedding planner" returns the result, "a person or company whose job is to organize weddings for other people". I would love Quinta da Barroca to explain what they think the role of a wedding planner is. Because, clearly, we have a very different understanding of the term. A wedding planner is supposed to act as the interface between the wedding suppliers and the bride/groom. However, it was clear that the wedding planner was not doing anything to remediate any of the issues. Due to the lack of responsiveness, guests resorted to complaining directly to the bride and groom. The poor couple who had just tied the knot had to speak to
